 WATERING

  • Trees and shrubs need follow up watering after planting if the soil moisture profiles are poor or low
  • This can be determined by digging down and inspecting how dry the soil is and adding water to the plants as required.
  • Be aware of surface tension ( eg when water is poured on dry saw dust / the water beads and runs off) making a small depression around each plant maybe needed
  • Trees do not need a lot of follow up watering once a moisture profile has been established. This requires a good awareness of your soil holding capacity and regular monitoring.

  • Suggested program would be :
    • Its very important to water plants well before planting. Do not plant plants that are dry!!!!
    • Water plants in straight after planting; This makes good root soil contact and reduces air pockets in the soil.
    • Monitor moisture profiles and follow up a week later if there is dry weather periods occurring.

 Don’t leave these above tasks until plants wilt, it will be

 Too late!!!!!!

The first few weeks of tree establishment and watering is critical!!!
 Do not forget your weed control, weeds love water too !!!!!
